When you were a kid, was there an adult in your life (parent, teacher, or coach?) who sparked something in you through play? A real connection through games or music or playful banter? Our mom Joan was our first Playmaker – and the true inspiration for Life is Good.
Despite facing major traumatic losses in her youth, mental health struggles, and later the intense daily strains of making ends meet on our dad’s slim salary, Joan consistently found a way to bring positive energy to the table. And that way was PLAY. She sang, danced, doodled, and invented wild tales. And she unlocked our imaginations.
Many kids don’t get to have a Playmaker like Joan in their home, but every kid deserves one. POSITIVE EARLY RELATIONSHIPS are the best predictors of long-term health outcomes for children impacted by trauma, and PLAY IS THE WAY we build those relationships.
That's why Life is Good donates more than 10% of annual net profits to the Life is Good Playmaker Project, which teaches early childhood professionals to build healing, life-changing relationships through the power of play. Together we can raise the next generation of resilient optimists.
Join the movement this Mental Health Awareness month and help fund a Playmaker.
