Radical farming doesn’t have to look radically different. Rows, seeds, tractors, tools and overalls still apply. But unlike industrial farming, organic farming aims to build soil, not destroy it. Boundless Farmstead is a 20-acre mixed-vegetable farm in Oregon that only uses organic amendments and focuses on native habitats. Bird netting protects crops from porcupines, quail, deer and elk. “Over the years, we’ve lost tens of thousands of dollars in lettuce and chicories,” co-owners David and Megan Kellner-Rode explain on their blog. “Now, we don’t lose any. And, we do not have to build any fences—the elk and deer migrate through at will.”
