Hey !
I tested something this week that made me question every headlamp I've ever recommended.
The claim: 800 lumens
The reality: 800 lumens for 45 seconds, then 400 lumens for the rest of the runtime
This isn't one bad headlamp. It's the entire industry.
Here's the problem: when you pack an LED, battery, and electronics into one sealed housing, heat has nowhere to go. The battery overheats. The headlamp throttles to avoid damage.
So that "800 lumen" headlamp you're using? It's really a 400 lumen headlamp that spikes higher for 45 seconds.
I found one that actually solves this. It holds 800 lumens for 30 minutes using a three-part modular design with passive cooling.
