Make them think of your chosen word
Marc Paul described Mike Shaw's Idiom as "the cleanest way of forcing a word" and, Marc, we have to agree with you.
It starts with a familiar prop: letter tiles, perhaps resembling those from a popular crossword-themed board game. You hand your spectator a box full of these tiles, have them shake it, and get ready to perform miracles.
Phase One: Instantly, you tell them the highest and lowest value letters they hold. No peeks. No fishing. Just straight, impossible knowledge.
Phase Two: You push things further, naming words they could spell from their random selection. Three letter words. Four. Five. Six. Even SEVEN letter words all divined in real time, as though you're seeing inside their mind.
Phase Three: You write a prediction on a board. They add up the values of their tiles... and when the total is revealed, it matches your prediction perfectly!
The Finale: You remind them they didn't just choose which letters to remove, they chose which ones to leave behind. You place those remaining tiles on the stand and arrange them into a NINE letter word. When the board is turned around... it's another spot on hit. A show-stopping ending that leaves jaws on the floor!
This is just one routine that you can perform with the Idiom gimmicks. Peter Nardi and Daniel Chard go over many more ideas that you can use this powerful mentalist tool for!
Idiom looks and feels like the real deal and comes packaged in a gorgeous green case that avoids suspicion.
