An Age Old Effect for the Modern Day
This might come as a shocker, but life in 15th century Europe was a little different than life today. Unless you get a good night's sleep on a pile of hay before your guild meeting, I would guess that rings true for you too. There is one thing that has remained popular since then, though: 3 Card Monte.
Today, I want to introduce you a on one of magic's oldest effects: The Color Spot Monte.
Color Spot Monte is one of the best takes on this classic routine. You start with three cards. Two have a large blue spot, and one has a large red spot in the center. Your spectator just has to follow the red card. If they do, they get a big cash prize.
You place all three in your hand face down and your spectator guesses top, middle or bottom. No matter where they pick, they have chosen a blue card. In fact, you show that all three cards are blue!
Giving them a chance for redemption, you ask them to follow the blue card. But this time, all three cards turn red.
You give them one last chance to win some money. You flip over the red card, flip over a blue card, and you leave the third card for them to guess the color of. Whether they say red or blue, they're wrong because the remaining card has a picture of a big bag of money!
Color Spot Monte is so fun to perform because unlike some other montes, you can pass out the cards for examination. We also went to lengths to make sure this will work on any audience, providing 5 different money cards with symbols for USD, GBP, Euro, Yen, and a blank one!
Give Color Spot Monte a try right now, you might find that in 500 years, you'll be remembered for performing it.
Color Spot Monte is available at any Murphy's Magic dealer, or you can check out with our featured dealer, RP Magic!
