Way faster than a speeding bullet
Can we let you in on a secret? The guys over at Murphy's Studio--they're obsessed with magic. While you may know the studio best for their original creations like Firefly or Liquify, but as true aficionados, they also love bringing classic, heavy-hitting effects, to brand new audiences.
Lately, they've been laser-focused on the works of the late, great Max Maven. To pay homage to this titan of magic, we've reprinted his incredible effect, Shinkansen, for a whole new generation of magicians to learn to adore.
Shinkansen is Japanese for 'bullet train' and with how quickly this effect unfolds, you're sure to see why.
You start with 2 packets of standard Bicycle cards. One pile has red backs; the other, blue. You count the red cards into one spectator's hand, being sure to show ever face. To another spectator, you show the four blue cards, and ask them to just think of one. You get them to firmly hold onto the blue pack.
Now, at a speed that would make an actual bullet train blush, the spectator's thought-of card launches from their packet directly into the red one. When you ask your spectators to look at their cards, the thought-of one has disappeared, and a single, blue-backed card has appeared in the red packet. The exact same blue-backed card that vanished.
