Thomas Edison would be cluelessThe self-lighting bulb was at one point a marvel of magic. Back when hiding batteries inside a portable lightbulb was cutting-edge. But does it fool modern audiences? Not really. This was what was going through our heads the first time we saw the trailer for Pitata's Wondrous Light. The performer holds a lightbulb and it beings to glow even when it's not in a socket. Big whoop. But then the trailer did something we've never seen. They started to unscrew the bulb, and instead of revealing the filaments of a light bulb, there was no actual light source. In fact, the bulb was full of individually-wrapped candies. It's pure delight (some pun intended) and subverts audience expectations. Oh, and it's completely examinable. This is the perfect effect for know-it-all audiences who think they understand how everything works. They think they know the secret, and then you reveal they don't even know what they're looking at. Wondrous Light is available at any Murphy's Magic dealer, or you can check out with our featured dealer, Merchant of Magic!
