Defy Gravity In Style
While we typically classify magic as visual, it means we watch some change happen in an instant. But powerful visual magic, doesn't have to be quick. It can be patient, thoughtful, and beautiful like Joel Dickinson's new balancing routine: The Pinnacle.
In the Pinnacle, the performer is armed with 5 everyday objects: a marker, a deck, a card, a matchbox, and a match. Each appears genuine and ungimmicked. At the end of the performance, spectators will not be able to find anything amiss, but that just makes what is about to happen even more magical.
The performer holds out the marker and carefully balances the deck of cards at the end. On top of the deck, he places a single card... just a little off from its center of gravity.
Already holding an impossible structure, the magician places a matchbox on top of the card. Miraculously, nothing falls. Finally a single match is left dangling off the top of the matchbox.
In that moment, gravity is meaningless. These normal objects, much like the audiences' disbelief, are suspended. Weightless. Then, the magician disassembles his makeshift tower, and structure returns to the world.
