You feelin' lucky?
The Big Blind is something completely new. It's a card trick without any cards. It infuses the thrill of gambling into the mystique of mentalism. It finishes completely clean. It's everything you'd want from a routine. It's no surprise that its creator, Craig Petty, was just named creator of the year!
The plot of Big Blind is easy to understand, but packs a huge punch. You have three poker chips, and you ask a spectator to think of any card, say the 8 of Clubs.
You bet them one chip you can tell them their suit. You guess diamonds. "Double or nothing," you say. Placing another poker chip in their hand, you say you know the value of their card. "Queen." Wrong again.
Finally you say you will bet them all three chips that you always knew which card they would select. Now, for the first time ever, you flip over each chip revealing the back. One has a Club. One says "Of". One says "8."
Your spectator has been holding those chips the whole time. They won't be able to process what just happened.
