An Immersive Exhibition Exploring Childhood at Palazzo Reale, Milan

Starting July 22nd until November 2nd, 2025, Palazzo Reale in Milan will host "Valerio Berruti: More than Kids" the largest and most comprehensive exhibition ever dedicated to contemporary artist Valerio Berruti. Produced by the Municipality of Milan – Palazzo Reale and Arthemisia, with the essential support of Fondazione Ferrero, this exhibition invites visitors on an extraordinary journey through monumental sculptures, interactive installations, animated videos, and even a genuine carousel.
"More than Kids" is an evocative exploration that deeply engages with the universal theme of childhood, delving into its symbolic power, emotional depth, and the innocence that shapes our earliest memories. Berruti masterfully transforms the historical spaces of Palazzo Reale into an immersive environment where visitors of all ages can reconnect with their own childhood experiences and rediscover the profound, universal connections that bind us all.

Valerio Berruti: An Artist between Visual Poetry and Solidarity
Valerio Berruti was born in Alba in 1977. In 2009, he participated in the 53rd Venice Biennale, presenting an animated work featuring original music composed by Paolo Conte. Among his most significant projects is the video Kizuna, scored by the acclaimed composer Ryuichi Sakamoto, which became a charitable initiative in support of Japan following the devastating earthquake of 2011.

In 2012, Berruti won the prestigious international "Luci d'artista" award in Turin and created a major permanent land-art installation at the Nirox Foundation in Johannesburg. Continuing to explore the fusion of visual art and music, in 2018 he presented "La giostra di Nina," an animated film with an original score by renowned composer Ludovico Einaudi, exhibited at MAXXI in Rome and Venaria Reale. In 2022, he unveiled "Alba," a monumental 12-meter-high steel sculpture, gifted to his hometown by the Ferrero family. In May 2024, Berruti expanded his international presence with a solo exhibition at Teagan Space in Beijing, China.

New Works and Animations at the Milan Exhibition
The exhibition at Palazzo Reale, curated by Nicolas Ballario, explores Berruti's artistic vision through key works such as "La giostra di Nina" and "Don't Let Me Be Wrong," a large sculpture exhibited for the first time in Milan. Additionally, the exhibition will premiere two new animated works: "Lilith," with a soundtrack by Rodrigo D'Erasmo, and "Cercare silenzio," featuring music by Samuel Romano from Subsonica. These new animations join other celebrated animated pieces accompanied by music from Paolo Conte, Ryuichi Sakamoto, and other renowned composers.

An Engaging and Reflective Artistic Experience
Berruti's artistic approach actively engages visitors, encouraging them to interact with his works through immersive, multisensory experiences. Visitors will have the unique opportunity to ride a real carousel inspired by Berruti's animations, bringing an element of playful nostalgia to the exhibition. Moreover, the artist encourages deep reflection on critical contemporary social issues such as childhood innocence, environmental sustainability, climate change awareness, and human solidarity. Designed for audiences of all ages, the exhibition offers workshops and interactive installations, providing a meaningful, thought-provoking experience that fosters dialogue between generations.
