During his career Cocteau made more than three hundred ceramic pieces at the workshop of Madeline Jolly, and this poster was designed for an exhibition of his experimental pieces in Villefranche-sur-Mer.
Cocteau famously likened the colour of skin to the pink colour of clay on which he ‘tattooed’ his drawings. Entitled Astrologie, the surreal design in this poster was later transferred to an earthenware dish.
Now an exceptional collector’s piece, this celestial lithograph was created by Cocteau in 1958 at the renowned Atelier Mourlot in Paris. Cocteau was very fond of the studio, so much so that in 1955, he wrote a poem dedicated to the famous print shop.

‘Walls have ears, they even have mouths, Mourlot posters, presents to you one of their songs, one of their cries.’
