The golden years of Finnish adventure sports – and how the Streetpack backpack came to be
In the late 1990s, Finnish adventure sports were just beginning to establish themselves on the international stage. At the same time, a collaboration took shape that would have a lasting impact on both the development of the sport and the design of technical outdoor gear. Team Halti, later known as Team Nokia Adventure, grew within just a few years into one of the world’s most successful adventure racing teams.
The races lasted for several days, sometimes up to a full week, and took place across mountains, jungles, and waterways. The team navigated using map and compass, almost without pause, carrying all the necessary equipment with them. Under such conditions, the importance of reliable gear became crucial.
