Our June 5 Fine European Art Signature® Auction features a rich selection of paintings and drawings spanning six centuries of art historical periods, styles and countries of origin. The sale features the Old Master and 19th-century drawing collection of the late William A. Glaser, who, for more than 60 years, assembled a connoisseur’s collection of works on paper by some of history’s greatest draftsmen, as well as gifted, lesser known figures, including Annibale Carracci,
Francesco Fontebasso, Pietro Faccini, Max Beckmann and many others. Painting highlights include
works by five members of the Pissarro family, a 1921 view of Cagnes by Nabi artist Félix Vallotton and
landscapes by Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot.

Among the many standouts in our June 5 Furniture & Decorative Arts Signature® Auction is a Napoleon III polychrome painted and satinwood grand piano
. This elegant piano represents a rare confluence of 19th-century French craftsmanship and early 20th-century decorative artistry. Built by the esteemed Parisian firm of Pleyel between 1870 and 1875, the instrument was later given a striking polychrome painted case in the 1920s by Leo Huillard, whose signature appears on the artwork. Huillard is known to have painted at least one other Pleyel grand piano, an example dated circa 1925, but no other examples signed by Huillard are currently known to the market or literature.

Website Tips: Bid Protection
|
Bid Protection allows you to ensure you are not outbid by automatically increasing your bid to the next full increment if you are outbid during the live event. This protects you from being "sniped" by a single increment. Bid Protection can be entered on all items except the current lot and the next upcoming lot in a Live Auction.
Note: The extra increment won't be placed until the item is up for live bidding, so it is possible that you could be outbid by a bid placed prior to live bidding, such as another proxy bid, live proxy bid, mail bid, etc., which could result in your losing the lot by that one increment. For the same reason, it is also possible that a currently losing bid with bid protection placed could potentially win the lot once the lot is subject to live bidding and the Bid Protection increment(s) is placed.
