We are honored to present Norman Rockwell's only known suite of four interrelated paintings as the centerpiece of our November 14 American Art Signature® Auction. Created in 1943, So You Want to See the President!
represents one of Rockwell's most unifying achievements: a visual meditation on democracy and the human face of leadership. Commissioned by Stephen T. Early, President Franklin D. Roosevelt's press secretary, the monumental work transforms the White House waiting room into a cross section of America, featuring soldiers, senators, Secret Service agents and citizens sharing the same space. For more than four decades, the panels hung prominently in the White House, making them a familiar sight to presidents, dignitaries and visitors alike.

Our November 19 Modern & Contemporary Art Signature® Auction brings together exceptional postwar and contemporary masters, showcasing painting, sculpture and conceptual art. Leading the auction are two stunning drawings by Ed Ruscha. The pair of works, Hollywood Sunset and
Blue Hollywood
, were versions of an iconic Ruscha subject: the Hollywood sign he could see from his studio window in Los Angeles. Other standouts include works by Salvador Dalí, Willem de Kooning, Ron Gorchov,
Jean-Michel Basquiat,
Alison Saar, Tom Wesselmann, Charles Bell and Keith Haring
. The auction also highlights an extraordinary selection of three-dimensional works by Henry Moore, John Chamberlain, Roxy Paine,
Jennifer Bartlett and Dalí.

Website Tips: Bid Protection
|
Bid Protection allows you to ensure you are not outbid by automatically increasing your bid to the next full increment if you are outbid during the live event. This protects you from being "sniped" by a single increment. Bid Protection can be entered on all items except the current lot and the next upcoming lot in a Live Auction.
Note: The extra increment won't be placed until the item is up for live bidding, so it is possible that you could be outbid by a bid placed prior to live bidding, such as another proxy bid, live proxy bid, mail bid, etc., which could result in your losing the lot by that one increment. For the same reason, it is also possible that a currently losing bid with bid protection placed could potentially win the lot once the lot is subject to live bidding and the Bid Protection increment(s) is placed.

Three Northern California brothers taking stock of their late mother's belongings in their family home during the holiday season last year discovered she had for decades held onto a cache of old comic books, tucked away in an attic beneath layers of brittle faded newspapers and cobwebs. Six treasured comics, kept since she and her brother bought them between the Great Depression and the looming World War II, will likely result in a life-changing windfall at Heritage's Comic Books Signature® Auction November 20-22 - and
could include the world's most valuable comic book.
Three months after their discovery, the brothers contacted the Dallas-based Heritage Auctions to discuss the possibility of a sale, leaving a message that crossed the desk of Heritage Auctions Vice President Lon Allen on a Sunday. Within days, he was in San Francisco examining their collection.
"They're in their 50s and 60s, and their mom had always told them she had an expensive comics collection but never showed them," Allen says. He smiles and adds, "It's a twist on the old 'Mom threw away my comics' story."
Among the collection were five early issues of Action Comics, the National Allied Publications anthology that introduced Superman to the world in its premiere issue. It included issues 9, 12, 15,
18 and
21, which would soon achieve CGC grades varying from fine to near-mint.
