Our October 3 Photographs Signature® Auction features several important works by photographic titans Robert Frank and Irving Penn, all with superb provenance. The Frank selection includes London (Belsize Crescent), 1951, originally in the collection of Edward Weston’s daughter-in-law, Margaret Weston. There are also three magnificent examples from Frank’s groundbreaking series The Americans. Penn is perhaps best known for his fashion work for Vogue
, but his celebrity portraits were no less inventive. This is certainly the case with two extraordinary vintage prints in this auction: The Hand of Miles Davis, 1986, and a wonderful headshot of the jazz superstar, both originally given by Penn to Davis, who then bequeathed them to his wife, Cicely Tyson.

Filmmaker John Maloof has been driven to protect and celebrate the legacy of Vivian Maier since he first began exploring her work and life almost two decades ago. Now he is making available some of his remarkable archive, including vintage and gallery prints, as well as Maier’s
personal artifacts. On October 7, we will offer more than 50 lots from the Maloof Collection, with proceeds supporting the Soi Dog Foundation, which works in Thailand to fight for the well-being of dogs and cats throughout Asia and beyond. Auction highlights include selections from Maier’s own wardrobe,
jewelry,
ephemera and photography. It’s a deeply personal selection of material from the elusive yet iconic street photographer.

Our October 8 Colores y Cultura: Latin American Art Showcase Auction shines a spotlight on the richness and variety of Latin American art, bringing together works that are both deeply rooted in tradition and boldly experimental. Featured artists include Rodolfo Morales, whose dreamlike depictions of Mexican village life are infused with surrealist overtones;
Pedro Friedeberg, famous for his imaginative, almost playful designs that mix symbolism with impossible architecture; Sergio Hernández, who weaves pre-Hispanic imagery and organic textures into layered, abstract visions; and Rafael Coronel, known for his haunting portraits that capture the drama and fragility of the human condition.

Website Tips: Bid Protection
|
Bid Protection allows you to ensure you are not outbid by automatically increasing your bid to the next full increment if you are outbid during the live event. This protects you from being "sniped" by a single increment. Bid Protection can be entered on all items except the current lot and the next upcoming lot in a Live Auction.
Note: The extra increment won't be placed until the item is up for live bidding, so it is possible that you could be outbid by a bid placed prior to live bidding, such as another proxy bid, live proxy bid, mail bid, etc., which could result in your losing the lot by that one increment. For the same reason, it is also possible that a currently losing bid with bid protection placed could potentially win the lot once the lot is subject to live bidding and the Bid Protection increment(s) is placed.

When 42-year-old Miami entrepreneur Steven Walbroehl bought his first Louis Vuitton duffel bag seven or eight years ago, he had no intention of adding luxury accessories to his ever-growing list of collections. “I travel a lot and just needed a good bag,” recalls the prolific collector of rare comics, Marvel trading card art, Magic: The Gathering
cards and first-edition books. But once Walbroehl discovered Louis Vuitton, he was all in. “I love the quality, the craftsmanship and the attention to detail,” he says. “I was drawn to Louis Vuitton because they originally made trunks for traveling and that attitude is still imbued in the spirit of the brand.”
Today Walbroehl’s collection includes a variety of special edition Keepalls and trunks, collaborations with Yayoi Kusama and Takashi Murakami, the
Silver Mirror Monogram Boi??te Skateboard Trunk with Skateboard and the extraordinary
VIA Treasure Trunk. “I view Louis Vuitton as functional art,” he says. “They create pieces you can use in everyday life or just as easily hang on the wall.”
On October 9, Walbroehl will offer a portion of his collection in our Autumn Luxury Accessories Signature® Auction.
