For Christopher Nolan’s 2008 movie The Dark Knight, part two of his Batman trilogy, the director wanted to come up with a vehicle to eclipse the Batmobile. The result was the Batpod: a mega-motorbike with a Honda 750 engine and monster tyres, described by special effects supervisor Chris Corbould as ‘a beast of a machine’. This is one of only four fully functioning Batpods used in the film Estimate: £300,000-500,000 11 December, London

The mysterious, haunting quality of Gilles Aillaud’s paintings of zoo animals is strongly evident in his 1976 work Bassin avec Otarie, depicting a sea lion pool. At first, it is hard to know what we’re looking at, with a partially concealed polygon surrounded by swirls of blue and green. The image verges on the abstract, until the viewer spots a sleek form gliding through the water to the right Estimate: €60,000-80,000 until 4 December, Online
