Supporting the Right to Roam
This weekend marks the 93rd anniversary of the Kinder Scout Mass Trespass that saw hundreds of people gather on privately owned countryside to highlight their lack of access to open areas.
The 1932 trespass wasn't the first trespass. In fact trespass can be traced to at least the late 1800s. However, this one resulted in 5 people being jailed, which was a first. It was one of many events of a broader movement that led to the forming of our National Parks and the access rights being enshrined into law in 2002.
However we still don't have a right to swim, paddle and many crags are still out of bounds. In fact, footpaths only give a right to walk - not to stop, take in the view or simply sit down.
We're delighted to support the Trespass and Right to Swim. We firmly believe in the benefits that the outdoors brings to all and for access rights to be protected.
