windows defender screwed up
It's giving me a constant message to check for definition updates, and when
I do says there are no new ones. The last installed August 5.

What's going on?

Thanks,
John

My Windows Defender had to be turned off because my virus protection
Windows Live OneCare couldn't run properly with WD on. I wonder if u

Download and save the latest def update from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/security/portal/default.aspx

The link to the 32 bit [x86] defs is in the right frame at the top:

Once the download completes close the browser and any other open programs.
Now run mpas-fe.exe
Did they install ?

Windows Defender is turned off, because the majority of the technology
in Windows Defender is integrated in to Windows Live OneCare and is
tightly integrated in the virus scanning portion of OneCare. The only
thing that OneCare doesn't have is the Process Explorer that Windows
Defender has, and this is a feature I would like to see added to OneCare
myself in the future.

In effect there is no discrepency.
