I was using yahoo im when a version of internet explorer hung up on a page. When I was trying to shut off the computer, I got the message "yahoo IM is trying to connect to your computer allow or deny access". Thinking I wanted my computer to stop being hung-up, I said "deny access". Now I think the connection for yahoo IM is blocked through windows some how. This is what I've done so far 1) tried disabling windows firewall and tried adding yahoo 2) tried rebooting 3) tried reinstalling yahoo IM 4) tried system restore of an earlier check point this morning 5) tried clearing cookies and temporary internet files 6) tried creating and logging in with a DIFFERENT yahoo ID and account I've tried to search through the security info but I can't seem to access any logs or direct info. It's making me crazy!!! Does anyone know where I can change the access to the internet for different programs?
Are you sure you do not have a different Firewall to vista's firewall? Sounds like you are using Zone Alarm Firewall, or similar. -- Mick Murphy - Qld - Australia "Surfer Susie" wrote: > I was using yahoo im when a version of internet explorer hung up on a page. > When I was trying to shut off the computer, I got the message "yahoo IM is > trying to connect to your computer allow or deny access". Thank you for writing back Mick. You're right--I was using the Trend Micro PCillin Internet Security and the first several times I was digging around in it, I couldn't find the program permissions. I found the permission and fixed the issue (it only took 2.5 hours!!!! uhhhg): Network Security>Personal Firewall>Direct Connection (from the list in the box)>Exceptions tab> and the Yahoo IM was set to "deny" vs "allow" so I changed it to "allow". Turned out NOT to be a WIndows Vista issue-- thanks again for the support :) Susie "Mick Murphy" wrote: > Are you sure you do not have a different Firewall to vista's firewall? > Sounds like you are using Zone Alarm Firewall, or similar. > -- > Mick Murphy - Qld - Australia > > > "Surfer Susie" wrote: > > > I was using yahoo im when a version of internet explorer hung up on a page. > > When I was trying to shut off the computer, I got the message "yahoo IM is > > trying to connect to your computer allow or deny access".
