Many Many thanks Bob H I was looking at putting XP on my new laptop, but it looks like I won't have to now. The patch solved more than one problem. Duplex did not work. I couldn't choose the paper tray. It complained every time I tried 'Fast Draft' All seems to work now. It's a shame that neither Microsoft Update or HP Support can provide this fix.
