Constantly disappearing global icon
Hi! :)

I have been a Windows Vista user for about 7 months and I have encountered a
problem when I start up my computer. When I log into my account, everything
runs normally except for the network center. At first, a red "X" would appear
which is normal, but then the global icon does not appear. I have been
experiencing this for a few days now and I have no idea what to do. I have
searched the Knowledge base for answers but one solution I found was to
download Windows Vista Service Pack 1. I have downloaded the Service Pack
when it first was released via Windows Update but sadly I experience this
problem.

This problem has never happened to me before until just a few days ago. When
I pace my cursor over the network center icon, it says, " Currently connected
to: Network Access: Local Only". When I open my browser and close it, the
global icon then appears as it should but sometimes it justs disappears again.

I have tried to diagnose the problem too but there seems to nothing wrong
with my connection except sometimes the internet might run a bit slowly than
usual.

What should I do to resolve this problem?

Re: Constantly disappearing global icon
how are you connected to the Internet? router? is it running the
latest firmware?

what Network card? do you have the latest drivers?

posting text results here as a reply of ipconfig /all may help

Re: Constantly disappearing global icon
try unbinding IPv6. see
http://digitalmediaphile.wordpress.com/ipv6-how-to-unbind-from-a-nic-in-windows-vista/
for instructions.

I strongly recommend that you get a router to use between your
computer and your broadband modem.

Re: Constantly disappearing global icon
Thank you for your response! It seems that may have done the trick so far,
since the global icon is not disappearing yet. If the problem persists, I
will post here again for further assistance.

Thank you for your help!
