Unable to reply or forward
After using Windows Mail for a number of months, today I find that I can no
longer reply to or forward email to any email address that uses a different
ISP than mine.
When I attempt to do so, here is the message I receive (Only the email
address was changed to protect my contact's privacy.
The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not be
correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help solving this
problem, go to Help, search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and read the
"I'm having problems sending e-mail" section. If you need help determining
the proper server settings, please contact your e-mail service provider.
The rejected e-mail address was 'xxx@wifi7.com'. Subject 'Fw: Santa Fe',
Account: 'personal mail', Server: 'mail.roadrunner.com', Protocol: SMTP,
Server Response: '550 relaying mail to wifi7.com is not allowed', Port: 25,
Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 550, Error Number: 0x800CCC79
Any advice will be greatly appreciated!

Re: Unable to reply or forward
If your email provider is Roadrunner, then you have to be connected to their
network (ie, be at home) in order to send email thru their server.
If you are connected to another network (ie, away from home) then you either
have to:
1. Use Roadrunner webmail
http://www.rr.com/webmailtransition/index.cfm?div_id=33
2. Add the email server for whatever network you are connected to.
3. Get a Gmail account, and use their server to send when you are away from
home.

Re: Unable to reply or forward
When you got that error, what outfit was providing your Internet connection?
Port 25 SMTP cannot be used when away from one's ISP.

Re: Unable to reply or forward
Dave and Gary, thanks for your replies. To clarify the situation, I am
using the Windows Mail from my home computer with Roadrunner (Time Warner)
as my ISP. I can send emails justs not replies or forwards.

Re: Unable to reply or forward
For some reason the mail.roadrunner.com server thinks you are
not eligible to relay through it. Are you a former Adelphia customer?
Only former Adelphia customers are authorized to use that mail server.
Do me a favor. Go to http://www.whatismyip.com and copy the IP address
it says you have, then let us know what that is. If your computer has a
wireless connection, you can inadvertently connect to your neighbor's
Wi-Fi signal.

Re: Unable to reply or forward
Thank you, Gary for lending your expertise. Here is the info...
Yes, I am a former Adelphia customer.
IP address 9814983172
If I was connecting to my neighbors WI FI signal, I don't understand why it
would only happen when I was trying to reply or forward and never when I was
sending a newly composed email.
Thanks for your help!

Re: Unable to reply or forward
That IP address you gave us is not valid. It should have three periods
in it, something like 98.149.83.172. If I have guessed the placement of
the periods correctly, that points to the socal.res.rr.com division of
RoadRunner. That seems to jibe with the former Adelphia territory
in southern California.
The only suggestion I have is to delete that account, restart Windows Mail,
then recreate the account. Sometimes accounts get corrupted for no
apparent reason.

Re: Unable to reply or forward
Thank you again, Gary. Sorry that I left out the dots but you placed them
correctly. Yes, I am a southern California customer of Time
Warner/Roadrunner, formerly Adelphia. In researching on the Internet I had
found a few other instances of individuals seeking help for the indentical
problem but none appeared to have found resolution.
But thanks to your generosity and expertise, I have! Deleting the email
account that was giving me problems and then setting it back up worked! Such
an easy fix but one I would not have thought to try. Thank you, thank you,
thank you!
