Upgrade from Vista Home Premium to Vista Ultimate
Hi,

Two days ago, I purchased a PC equpped wit Vista Home Premium. As I need
Vista Business as a minimum for other applications, I purchased an upgrade to
Ultimate as well.
Today I wanted to install the upgradeand everything seemed to go fine, but
everytime my PC is restarted, it boots into Home Premium again.

Being 50 now, I am a mouse clicker and not an expert if it comes down to
software and installation problems.

I am sur it is a configuration problem, but I do not know where to start.

Please help.

What does age 50 have to do with learning? I'm way past 50 and not willing
to hang up my spurs just yet.

I am 66. And you were saying...? :P

It sounds like you may have installed Ultimate with the same product key
that came with VHP or is on the computer. Unlike XP, the edition of Vista
installed is determined by the product key you enter only. All retail Vista
dvds are alike so if you use a Vista Home Premium product key you get VHP
regardless of what it says on the box that the dvd came from. All editions
come on the same dvd and only the pk determines which one you are
installing.

You need to open the Vista Ultimate box (pull the dvd tray outward) and look
on the back of the tray (turn the box over). You will see the product key
for Vista Ultimate upgrade edition.

Start VHP on your computer and at the desktop insert the dvd from Vista
Ultimate in the dvd drive and when the splash screen appears, click Install
Now. When asked for the product key, enter the Ultimate pk. Be sure to
choose Upgrade Install and not Custom Install when that choice appears.
Then click Continue and go have some tea.

Re: Upgrade from Vista Home Premium to Vista Ultimate
Alfred,
What Windows application package do you have on your system that will run in
Vista business that will not run in Vista HP?

I'm betting he put in a dvd from the Ultimate retail box but used the
product key affixed to the computer. Hence he is still in VHP. It would
have produced an in-place-upgrade of VHP. But since the dvd came out of the
Ultimate box he thought he would get Ultimate simply because he used the
"right" dvd.
