Hello, ok so i put together a new system for my friend and here is the problem. Once vista boots from the cd it goes to a windows is setting up files, then goes to a black screen where there is a lilttle green bar moving. Now right after that it goes to a blueish screen where there is just the mouse cursor on the screen and just stays there? This is on all new hardware. Also this is a sata hard drive, Thank you :) Wd 320 sata hd Thermaltake 480 psu Vista home prem gigabyte ga-g31m-s2l intel e7200 2.53 corsair 2x 1 gig twin 6400 sapphire hd3650 512 -- raginrico
Down the bottom is would have asked if you wanted to load any drivers; the SATA drivers! -- Mick Murphy - Qld - Australia "raginrico" wrote: > > Hello, ok so i put together a new system for my friend and here is the > problem. Do you have the latest BIOS? Sometimes these "Vista-compatible" motherboards are not quite Vista compatible until after units start shipping - you have to flash the BIOS to resolve issues. Mine was that way. It was advertised Vista-compatible, but about 2/3 of the way through the install it would simply reboot itself and start over. BIOS flash fixed it. -- breitak67
Have not done that yet, would that be hard to do? -- raginrico
Ok loading it up now and will see what happens, thanks guys :) -- raginrico
Ok I am not sure where you mean at the bottom, only things I see are del key to go to the bios, then a express button and a q flash one. There was not one for load drivers :( -- raginrico
Ok so I thought I would try something. I hooked the new harddrive up to my own computer and I was able to start the install, and at that point it asked for drivers (not sure where I get those) and I just exited the install. Looking over the mobo There was one pwr led wire that was not hooked up to the mb because it does not have enough pins on the mb for where the manual says it goes. Do you think just buing a new ide drive would solve the problem or could it be the mb? Thanks for any help :) -- raginrico

There is no message banner with the F6 instruction. F6 is not used. What Vista has is a Load Drivers button on the partition selection screen. See the attachment.
Thanks Colin. I was doing it like you say, in vista installs last week! I must have had a blonde moment today! Yeah, almost like "down the bottom" it "asked if you wanted to load any drivers" *sigh*

Flashing the BIOS is not hard, but you have to be careful and make sure the BIOS image you download from the manufacturer's website exactly matches your motherboard. Most motherboard manufacturers have a Windows version of the BIOS installer, so no need to boot to command-line anymore. The flashing process takes about a minute. So, basically, you need two things, which you get from the web site of the mother board's manufacturer: 1. BIOS image 2. Installer utility 3. Instructions, which will be either on the web site or in a document file that comes with the installer utility -- breitak67

Ok will do, I looked on there website 'GIGABYTE - Support - Motherboard - BIOS - GA-G31M-S2L' (http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/Motherboard/BIOS_Model.aspx?ProductID=2693) and there are a few flash versions. Which one should I use the latest? On another note I went out and bought a ide harddrive and it still does the same thing :( Starting to wonder if its the bord. Thank you for your help.. -- raginrico

I would load the latest update - F6 - their list of resolved issues is pretty brief - there may be a lot of other things they are fixing in each release. By the way - there are a number of "Related Links" on the support page you linked including "Memory Support List" and "CPU Support List" - it is unlikely that your gear is not supported, but it is worth a few seconds to check and be sure there is not some known compatibility issue with your CPU or memory. I'll bet the BIOS update will resolve your issue, though. -- breitak67

In Vista it is the Load Drivers button on the partition selection screen.
