I just got a new PC and need some help. I have windows Vista Home Premium 64-Bit. When I go to start and select ''All Programs'' only some of the a few of the things I have installed are there. So I went onto C: and there is two differnt Program Files. One is called just ''Program Files'' and the other one is called ''Program Files (x86)''. The x86 one has all of the other stuff I have installed. Why is it like this? How do I get it to just be 1 folder with all my programs that I can select from the start menu like it normally is? I want it to be like on Vista 32-bit where when you go to Start and All Programs all your installed files are there not just the 64-Bit ones. :( I've been trying all day and cant do it! Help Please!! -- Usama
Hello Usama, You can have any programs you like in your start menu - there are lots of good tutorials on this forum - here are some you may like to start with : http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/89656-start-menu-customize.html http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/79565-start-menu-pin.html http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/79571-start-menu-shortcuts.html Hope this helps SIW2 -- SIW2
This is by design. Leave it as it is. Don't try to move it around, you'll mess it up. This behavior is by default. Using 64 bit programs on a x64 Vista will put everything into the default folder which is Program Files.32 bit programs will go into another folder named Program Files and will be x86. X86 stands for 32 bit -- Peter Please Reply to Newsgroup for the benefit of others Requests for assistance by email can not and will not be acknowledged. Hello Usama, Usually when you install either 32bit or 64bit programs, they should have an option to allow them to place a shortcut in the Start Menu and sometimes on the Desktop. If they do not, then you will need to manually create a shortcut from the program's ".exe" file and move it the Start Menu All Programs area. This tutorial will show you how to Move/Add that shortcut to the Start Menu. http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/79571-start-menu-shortcuts.html Hope this helps, Shawn -- Brink *There are no dumb questions, just the people that do not ask them.* '*VISTA FORUMS*' (http://www.vistax64.com) *Please post feedback to help others.*

Usama, No, it should do this automatically for you. When you have the 64 bit Vista, the 32 bit programs will install in the "C:\Program Files (x86)" folder and the 64 bit programs will install in the "C:\Program Files" folder. At the end of the program installation it should also place a shortcut for that program in the Start Menu for the program unless you unchecked that option while installing the program. -- Brink *There are no dumb questions, just the people that do not ask them.* '*VISTA FORUMS*' (http://www.vistax64.com) *Please post feedback to help others.*

Games will sometimes not place a shortcut in the Start Menu like normal programs. Instead it will just place a shortcut in the "Games Explorer" window in the Start Menu. You can look at the screenshots in the examples in this tutorial to see where to look and open the Games Explorer window. http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/173413-games-explorer-link-fix.html Hope this helps, Shawn -- Brink *There are no dumb questions, just the people that do not ask them.* '*VISTA FORUMS*' (http://www.vistax64.com) *Please post feedback to help others.*
