I started getting message when I tried to copy them from the desktop to a memory stick that they no longer existed on the desktop. I found I got the same message from any files in the PC, and that the memory stick worked fine on another PC. I have been using ReadyBoost with it. Do I need to reset it in some way?
You need to goto the properties then readyboost then select don't use this device. -- mansrm81 If you think I helped you fix your problem give me some rep :D. Click on the scales.

Are you talking about a Memory Stick (Sony's memory card for its cameras) or a USB thumb drive?

Trevor, I've discovered this does happen to me on both my computers, after further testing I have realized that the thumb drive itself (4gb Sandisk Cruzer) is faulty! This may be the same with your situation. If you can, get access to another thumb drive to verify the problem is not with Vista or your PC, but with the drive itself.
