Windows Vista ran an automatic update (i have it set to 'ask'??????) so I have no idea what update ran. When asked to restart, I did. Now my screen is blank. What do I do now? Thanks, Annie~
I manually shut down and restarted. On a black screen, lots of strings of letters and numbers ran across the screen. Then the computer 'did' start OK. I checked to see what updates ran, mostly security. One that failed was: Windows Update software 7.2.6001.784 Installation status: Failed Error details: Code 80070002 Update type: Important Any advice?

As you already learned... restarting sometimes fixes all. So does an attempt to reinstall an update. If it doesn't... find a way to manually download it and install it. Or attempt to install it in Safe Mode.

Still trying to find the answer to the problem. However you can escape the the problem with task manager - shift control delete & end the blank page. kymbo
