I've been getting frequent CRC errors when installing games on my PC, particularly games or programmes with large files. The PC is brand new and I initially thought that this must be a hardware issue. However, I sent my PC back to the manufacturer, they tested it thoroughly and found no problems at all with any of the hardware. This has led me to conclude that this must be a software problem, namely a problem with Vista. Has anyone heard of this happening on Vista? And does anyone know a solution? p.s. All the games I've been trying to installing are on original, unscratched (and in some instances brand new) discs. I've also had CRC problems on the downloaded Crysis demo. Yes, CHKDSK has been run along with a full battery of diagnostics, so I know it's not a hardware problem. Download the latest version of MemTest86+, and let that run all night. CRC errors when installing stuff could be a sign of bad RAM. This is a Vista problem 100% , I dual boot with Xp and Vista ultimate, if I download files with vista and try to extract them with winrar i get crc errors yet in Xp I extract and no problem at all and everything is normal, and winrar is fine with vista, almost everything I download with vista gives me a problem yet the same files unraring in XP no prob at all if anyone ever finds the source of this exact bug please post it. Definetly not a hardware issue in the slightest. -- Incog ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Incog's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/members/incog.htm View this thread: http://forums.techarena.in/windows-vista-games/988927.htm http://forums.techarena.in
You're right, undoubtedly a Vista problem. I haven't got a "solution" for this but a workaround: Open the archive in Winrar and select files to extract. Choose "extract to specified folder" (or anything similar) Check the box "keep broken files" Files will be extracted regardless of any crc error. -- does24 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ does24's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/members/does24.htm View this thread: http://forums.techarena.in/windows-vista-games/988927.htm http://forums.techarena.in
Even if I do that and finally get the files extracted then the iso files or whichever format is in, has a crc error apoun installation!!!!!!,its pathetic really, totally unacceptable. So needless to say I use XP for all downloads as they are never corrupt. If I download with XP and then install the iso file with vista no problem at all, lmfao -- Incog ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Incog's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/members/incog.htm View this thread: http://forums.techarena.in/windows-vista-games/988927.htm http://forums.techarena.in
Found out something in the meantime: When i download in Vista and try to extract: crc error When i download in Vista and extract in XP: everything fine When i reboot and extract in Vista again (to another path): EVERYTHING FINE!! So AFTER i've extracted in XP, the archive works fine under Vista. Like you said.... lmfao !! -- does24 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ does24's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/members/does24.htm View this thread: http://forums.techarena.in/windows-vista-games/988927.htm http://forums.techarena.in
