Disk management console view is not up-to-date
I have stumbled on a problem that is reported in many forms in different
forums, but it is always blamed to something else or not solved.

Problem: Not possible to extend a volume, because in the final step the
Extend Volume Wizard reports (after clicking Finish):

-The operation failed to complete because the Disk Management console
view is not up-to-date. Refresh the view by using the refresh task. If
the problem persists close the Disk Management console, then restart
Disk Management or restart the computer.-

Non of these suggested solutions remove this error.

Here is what I did:
1) installed Vista x64 on a 500 GB disk.
2) for reasons not important here, I decided to move to a 1000GB disk,
by backing up the system, and restoring it on the 1000 GB disk. This
worked sofar, but Vista created only a 500 GB partition, with an empty
second partition.
3) I now try to extend the first partition to 1000 GB. I do this by
right clicking the boot partition and select Extend partition. On the
wizard I keep next, then Finish. Then this message above appears.

Re: Disk management console view is not up-to-date
Wow, found a solution here: 'How to Extend a Disk Partition in Windows
Vista and Server 2008' (http://tinyurl.com/5acegl)

The solution was to use the command line interface instead of the
graphical user interface:

1) Start command line interface (Right click Run as Administrator)
2) enter "Diskpart"
3) List Disk
4) Select Disk x (in my case 0)
5) List partition
6) Select partition x ( in my case 1)
7) extend

Done!

Hi, vankampenp.

Thanks for the tip. I've seen that error message ("Disk Management console
view is not up-to-date"). I got it fixed, somehow, but don't remember how.
Another poster was asking about it recently and I couldn't recall what to
advise.
