okay I'm the impatient type... Is there anyway to watch the progress of the defrager, like the old days or not? -- kzone
Basically, no, not with vista's built in defragmenter, although you can get a report from the command line version. Vista's inbuilt software is designed to run without interference to the user so the only gui control is now the setting of the schedule and manual start. According to microsoft the time remaining estimate is verry innacurate anyway due to the nature of the defrag process If you want to see the little boxes or a duration estimate you need to go to a third party soloution. :D -- barman58 -- Regards *Barman58* the beginning of knowledge is the discovery of something we do not understand.,- frank herbert

Exactly. You have to ignore fragmantation problems on Vista. Since it uses scheduled background defrag it frees the user from this routine job. With the default Vista defragmenter, there is no way to get a graphical drive map indicating file fragmentation. You can, however, get verbose text analysis by typing the following at the command prompt*. For eg, for analyzing drive C defrag c: -a -v note the spaces, they must be included Do note that fragments larger than 64MB are not listed in the analysis. * you need to open the cmd prompt with administrative privileges i.e right click on the icon and run as admin. Hope this helps. Best regards ---------------------------- Representative Diskeeper Corporation --------------------------- -- DiskeeperRep
