How long does it take the search index to complete. I would like to search file for content in my computer. The index automatically builds Outlook, Users, etc, but other locations I have entered like a partitioned D: drive (data files) and External K: drive (backup and historical files) will not yield results without checking "search non indexed locations". This takes quite a while even with 4 gigs of Ram, Ready Boost etc using Vista Business. I've tried rebuilding index but it's very slow and does not seem to get to the other drives I mentioned. Please advise, cant' find anything on MS web site Thanx
If you want non-indexed locations added to the search index you need to add them yourself - that's why they're called "non-indexed" locations. How long it will take depends on how many files, drives, etc. are indexed; system performance; hard drive speed; and so on. Open Help and Support and search for "Add Locations to Search Index" - there's a wealth of information there. -- Richard G. Harper [MVP Shell/User] rgharper@gmail.com * NEW!
