I doubt it has anything to do with access. If you don't see ordinary files
in Windows Explorer, then they are not there.
The search function builds an index of files on your system, and from time
to time it rebuilds it. The index lists files that are not there, and that's
why you can't open them. I don't know what happened to them. I suspect you
had more problems than activation, and more than a restore could repair.
That's why it's important to backup your files on a regular basis. Then you
can recover from the backup. There are lots of free, automatic backup
programs out there.
