Upgrade SP1 Eval to Licensed Edition with hotfix 954049 installed
I am attempting to perform an upgrade from SCOM 2007 SP1 eval to the SP1
licensed version. I had originally installed SCOM 2007 SP1 eval on a virtual
machine running Windows Server 2003. The new servers are physical machines
running Windows Server 2008. I installed SCOM 2007 SP1 licensed version on
the new servers and introduced them into the existing management group. I
migrated all the databases and decommisioned the eval servers. I had
installed the hotfix 954049 to provide Windows 2008 support.

When I try and run the SetupOM.exe on the new installation to update the
database I get the following error. Would anybody have any idea how I work
around this? I assume this is due to the hotfix, however I can't seem to
remove the hotfix.

Re: Upgrade SP1 Eval to Licensed Edition with hotfix 954049 installed
Hi Justin,

You had a management group running on eval lic and then you installed a new
management server in that management group with a non-eval software? Then
you moved the db and RMS role over to the new management server and deleted
the eval server? Is that correct?

Re: Upgrade SP1 Eval to Licensed Edition with hotfix 954049 instal
Hey Anders,

That is correct. Normally this would be fine if I ran the SetupOM.exe and
upgraded the existing eval edition. I think the issue is because the hotfix
954049 is installed to provide the Windows 2008 support. When I run
SetupOM.exe now, the setup process thinks there is a newer version installed.
I am unable to remove the hotfix to perform the upgrade.

Cheers,
Justin

Re: Upgrade SP1 Eval to Licensed Edition with hotfix 954049 instal
I have managed to upgrade the evaluation license, so I thought I would share
my experience. I reproduced the issue in virtual machines and after testing a
few scenarios, the easiest solution was for me to introduce a new eval
management server into the existing management group. I then promoted this
server to the RMS. I ran the upgrade on the eval RMS server which also
upgraded the database. Once this was complete, I made the existing licensed
server the RMS and removed the eval server from the management group.
