Alternative GPRS Modem for SMS
Hi,

One of our System Consultants recommended the iTegno 3800 GPRS USB Modem for
sending SMS alerts. However, I have just found that it does not support
64-bit OS platforms and the client's server is a 64-bit Dell Blade server.

Would appreciate very much any recommendations of an alternative USB modem
capable of supporting 64-bit platforms and tested to be working well. Thanks
in advance.

Mohammed Noor

RE: Alternative GPRS Modem for SMS
Hi Mohammed:
I have not yet personally found a modem that has 64-bit drivers that work
with OpsMgr SMS notifications or with Microsoft's SMS Sender, which is an
application that uses the same channels to send SMS messages. SMS Sender is
a good test to determine if a GSM device will work with OpsMgr. I tried a
multitech modem, but as of 4 months ago, their 64-bit driver wouldnt work
with Server 2003.

We finally decided to use a spare Motorola Q as the GSM modem. Here is a
blog about how i set it up:

Re: Alternative GPRS Modem for SMS
I know I'm a little late, but have you considered a serial modem instead of
USB? We decided to go serial since it made it easier to work in a virtual
environment. Here's a link:

Re: Alternative GPRS Modem for SMS
Hi Scott,

Thanks for the information nonetheless. I do have a test environment set up
on a 64-bit server hardware and with Server 2003 64 bit edition installed. I
will look into having it set up when I get the chance.

Re: Alternative GPRS Modem for SMS
Hi Ron,

I got a similar setup with SCOM 2007 installed on Windows Server 2003
(32 bit), When i try to sent SMS using Itengo 3800 GPRS Modem, i am getting 2
errors in Operations Manager Software,
     Source :Health Service Modules
     Event ID : 31502 , 31500
I could able to sent SMS with Itengo default software (Itengo Mobile office
Suite)

But i could not able to receive any SMS from SCOM 2007

Please let me know, whether Itengo 3800 is supported for SCOM 2007 or not ?

Thanks in Advance

Regards
Ramkumar
