CAPICOM is a Microsoft software component that provides access to system level cryptography features for applications that use the COM programming model instead of the lower level Crypto API (or CAPI), hence the name CAPICOM. It doesn't ship with the OS, but it is freely available for dowload from Microsoft and is used frequently included in other applications for doing things like encryption. It is not a standalone program that does something on its own. It is simply a component that other applications use. I suggest you not worry about it and just install the update. It isn't going to harm anything. -- Joe Kaplan-MS MVP Directory Services Programming Co-author of "The .NET Developer's Guide to Directory Services Programming" http://www.directoryprogramming.net -- "hutson hornet" wrote in message news:65020E0F-21E6-4F5D-B2C2-CE697CA56639@microsoft.com... > this has been riposted here > http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/en-us/default.aspx?dg=microsoft.public.platformsdk.active.directory&tid=145a77bc-6261-4f49-ab79-e5a42ca212b3&cat=en_US_0b55ae01-27c5-4ce1-a8b7-de299b40c391&lang=en&cr=US&sloc=en-us&m=1&p=1 > > "Stefan Engelbert" wrote: > >> I dont understand this huge block of characters..... >> >> "hutson hornet" schrieb im >> Newsbeitrag news:F238349A-B0F1-4049-BE3E-AD0F8227E6E3@microsoft.com... >> > HI all i have no clue were i got this from it just showed up in my >> > windows >> > update as a security update for it. how would i get this only thing i >> > could >> > think of is i tryed a philips webcam and its software kept crashing so >> > i >> > tried it threee more times with clean installes and no go so >> > uninstalled >> > its >> > crap for the third time. but i would think if it came from that it >> > would >> > took >> > it with it. now i do have a new logitech cam could it have come from >> > this? >> > or >> > i installed the comodo firewall would it have come from this stuff? >> > anyhow >> > i >> > don't see a uninstall for it and not sure if i should uninstall it >> > anyhow >> > i >> > don't want to break anything lol. but just curious how i got it as it's >> > the >> > first i heard of it. thanks all. >> >>
