Can anyone please help me. I work for a company which has Server 2003 and also Symantec Backup Exec and Continuous Protection. We are experiencing problems where the snapshots are being deleted spuriously at random times. Speaking to Symantec they have suggested several ideas and items and currently their senior technical staff have the details. In their datasheet on this problem it does state that after you have exhaused all of their procedures you need to contact Microsoft to ask their advice. Has anyone had this problem with snapshots being randomly deleted? Is there anyway of turning off this behaviour? David Knight
Have you checked this link out? http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/281173.htm I've been having this problem forever with CPS. For me it's definatly a problem with disk I/O as it only happens when a backup is taking place. I've been able to stop the problem from occuring by elminating a seperate disk based backup to the server. As long as CPS is the only program running backups, my snapshots do not get deleted. Have you found anything out since posting this article? "David Knight" wrote: > Can anyone please help me. Thanks for the reply. This issue is causing me no end of problems. I am getting this error in the event logs at the moment'The oldest shadow copy of volume R: was deleted to keep the total number of shadow copies of volume R: below a limit.' What limit?64 if this is the case there are a total of 13. We do do a disc based backup of exchange to disc running from the same server. However the errors are spuradic. I've been getting an Event ID 25 with the message "The shadow copies of volume E: were deleted because the shadow copy storage could not grow in time. Consider reducing the IO load on the system or choose a shadow copy storage volume that is not being shadow copied." I'm moving forward with changing some of my storage locations and reconfiguring som raids. Have you checked eventid.net and search for your particiular event id and source code?
