Analysis server EE seperate from web server
Hi
I am trying to access SQL Analysis services enter prise edition cubes
using Office web components from a browser client using http:// access.
... .. now it works perfectly when the analysis server is installed on
the same machine as the web server. I just need to copy the standard
"msolap.asp" file into the web servers wwwroot directory and it handels
the http access to the analysis server. but when i seperate the 2
servers then the client is not able to access the cubes ..
my question is if i need to seperate the web server from the analysis
server where do i copy the msolap file and is there any extra config
steps that i need to follow.if so please let me know.
i'm using IIS 5.0 and Analysys server 2000 Enterprise edition on
windows 2000 advanced server OWC version is 10.0 and i'm using internet
explorer 5.0
thanks,
mav

Re: Analysis server EE seperate from web server
Hi,

First this post is not regarding xmla, so I recommend to post your question
in the .olap newsgroup.

second, could you explain whats appends exaclty?

you can have IIS on the same server as your AS server.
the msolap.asp file could be copied in the root folder or in a dedicated
virtual folder (I recommand this option)
make sure that the "anonymous" access is disabled for the virutal folder or
for the msolap.asp file.
Activate the NT authentication and/or the basic authentication.
make sure you have defined 1 or more roles in your AS cubes, if there is no
roles defined, you can't access the cubes.
if you have Windows 2003, make sure you authorize IIS to run ASP files,
because, by default ASP file are locked in IIS 6.0.

I hope this helps you.

Jerome.

Re: Analysis server EE seperate from web server
my application works well when i have IIS and AS server on the same
machine .. how ever in order to make it owrk i na production
environment i need to test it with seperate IIS and AS Server install
...
I came accross the following article that describes how to do it :
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/dnsql2k/html/sql_datapump.asp?frame=true&hidetoc=true

but despite following all the steps mentioned in teh article i havent
been able t omake it work . It basically says that u need to copy the
msolap.asp file from \bin of ASServer install folder and place it in
the the home directory of ur website on the IIS server. then u need to
register the msmdpump.dll and set a few permissions on IIS ..
but it doesnt work for me ..
has anyone tried this before if so please let me know what i'm doing
wrong.
thanks,
mav.

Re: Analysis server EE seperate from web server
what is your authentication?
Basic or NTLM?

with NTLM you should face kerberos delegation problems.
does your 2 servers are in the same domain?
In the active directory, Trust the IIS server for delegation. (for NTLM
authentication)

Look at the kerberos with anslysis services KB articles
