70-301 Exam
Has anyone tried the 70-301 exam without doing the MSF course? Given the
lack of practice tests and/or texts, the only preparation materials I have
are the white papers and the text for 70-300 (Analysing Requirements and
Defining Microsoft .NET Solution Architectures).

Thanks

Re: 70-301 Exam
Take a look at the preparation guide
http://www.microsoft.com/learning/exams/70-301.asp and try to see if all the
notions are understood. If something is not clear ask on this newsgroup.
In addition to preparation guide use this to test your readiness:
- know the five phases of MSF process model (deliverables ,interim
milestones, each role responsibilities during each phase)
- use a risk document to identify highest priority risks (use probability *
impact = exposure formula)
- build a risk document
- know what mitigation plan and contingency plan are
- success criteria for each project phase
- how to gather user requirements
- apply the trade-off matrix.
- apply the trade-off triangle
- what is master risk list
- what is bug convergence and what is zero bug bounce
- types of testing
- when you have a smaller team how can you combine roles (smallest team can
be of 3 members)
- risks when combining certain roles
- how to conduct a pilot
- how to perform testing
- how to build development and test environment
Anyway if you are familiar with the concepts detailed in preparation guide
the exam shouldn't be a problem.

Re: 70-301 Exam
In my opinion, the act of applying MSF within the MSF workshop environment
of course 1846, is very valuable for this exam. This is not an exam that you
can memorise lots of facts for, you must be able to apply MSF thinking to
solve mini-scenarios in each question.

Re: 70-301 Exam
I've been working through the preparation guide on the Microsoft site. In
the planning phase, it refers to being able to establish an application
architecture for a solution and identify enterprise architecture impacts on a
proposed solution. As a project manager, I would generally rely on other
expert team members to undertake these types of tasks. Therefore is there an
expectation to pass the exam that I need to have knowledge in the areas that
generally other team leads would be experts in?

Thanks
Claire

Re: 70-301 Exam
MSF is technology agnostic. The exam might give you some real world
technologies in the questions but don't worry, this is not 70-300 exam.
Nevertheless you should understand conceptual, logical, and physical designs
and course 2710 does a good job on this part.
