RE: Expertise Needed
Hi,
First of all differences between Mappoint CD and Mappoint web service (MWS):
CD - Pay a small fee (a few hundred dollars) to get an offline, static
version of maps. You basically run the application on your desktop and get
access to what they give you out of the box.
MWS - Requires a contract to go into production, moderate fees (think
thousands), online, dynamically generated maps with more up-to-date data.
Includes traffic data, special driving direction options, larger datasource
set, and much more. Free to try but you only have access to their staging
environment. Contact maplic@microsoft.com if interested in going commercial.
MWS + CD update frequency varies. MWS used to be updated on a quarterly
basis, hard to say what Microsoft's policy on this now that they're moving
over to Virtual Earth (the newer beta online product to MWS). CD product I'd
guess once every year (since they release a new product per year).
Hope that helps,
