Added new card, now have Device Manager error
I have installed a PCI-Express Serial Port (single) adapter card for my
system (my MOBO does not have a serial port and I have a legacy device that
requires it). The device came with Vista 64 drivers, system never looks for
them.
Under Deivece Manager, System Devices section, I now have a "PCI standard
PCI Express to PCI/PCI-X Bridge" and it has an error condition:
"This device cannot find enough resources that it can use. (Code 12) If you
want to use this device, you will need to disable one of the other devices on
this system."
I clicked the "check for solutions" button, it brought up the 'scan dialog',
then nothing is returned.
This is located at PCI bus 3, device 0, function 0
I have the following PCI ** entries in device manager:
PCI bus
PCI Express standard Root Port
PCI Express standard Root Port
PCI standard host CPU Bridge
PCI standard ISA Bridge
PCI standard PCI Express to PCI/PCI-X Bridge
PCI standard PCI-to-PCI bridge
PCI standard RAM Controller
PCI standard RAM Controller
PCI standard RAM Controller
PCI standard RAM Controller
PCI standard RAM Controller
PCI standard RAM Controller
PCI standard RAM Controller
PCI standard RAM Controller
PCI standard RAM Controller
PCI standard RAM Controller
PCI standard RAM Controller
PCI standard RAM Controller
PCI standard RAM Controller
PCI standard RAM Controller
PCI standard RAM Controller
PCI standard RAM Controller
PCI standard RAM Controller
PCI standard RAM Controller
(yes, that's 18 RAM Controller entries)
System info:
XFX nForce 680i LT SLI MOBO
2 Gb Ram
Intel c2Q 6600 quad core processor
Windows Vista Business 64 bit
75 Gb Sata HD
320 Gb Sata HD
XFX GeForce 7600 256Mb DDR3 1400Mhz graphics card
Lite-On SATA DVD-RW
TSST Corp. IDE DVD-RW
System runs consistently at 38 Celsius, no other issues.
I'm at a loss - anyone have an idea how to correct the pci bridge error and
get this thing running?
Thanks, Charlie

RE: Added new card, now have Device Manager error
I have the same issue with an EVGA nForce 780i SLI motherboard, 8GB RAM,
Vista Ultimate x64, 2x EVGA 8800GT 1GB SLI, RAID0 with 2x 500GB WD and two
Lite On optical drives (one CD-RW and one DVD-RW).
Everything is fine except the Xonar D2X sound card I have, running in the
3rd PCI-Express slot (in between the video cards) has that Code 12 error.
Odd thing is it only seems to happen to some people, the HackFlags registry
edit doesn't seem to work, and when it DOES happen it seems to happen on
Vista.
Any thoughts? I just updated my BIOS to the latest version and its still
the same.

RE: Added new card, now have Device Manager error
On this topic: does any have any info (or links to info) on WHY there are so
many entries for "PCI standard RAM Controller" in Windows Device Manager (XP
and Vista)?
I was hypothesizing that there's one RAM controller per X (where X =
something on the RAM Stick or RAM slot)?
But if it's 1 "PCI standard RAM Controller" per RAM slot, that's 4.5 of
"X"(the mysterious thing; 18 Controllers divided by 4)... and if it's per
Memory Stick, that would be (for me) 9 "X" (because 18 Controllers for 2
sticks is nine each)....
Are there SUPPOSED to be that many "Controller" components?
Any info appreciated...
