IE and Firefox not displaying webpage but Win Messenger Live Works
Hi All

I have a bit of a problem...

I am running Win XP SP2 and I am connecting to the internet via Broadband.
Webpages are failing to load whenever I try using Internet Explorer and
Firefox goes directly into error reporting mode when I try using that -
however MSN Live Messenger works (which i use on port 80) and also when i use
the diagnostic tool it tells me there is no issue with the connection
settings.

I have also tried connecting at my home and place of work to no avail with
web browsers but ok with other things

I have also noticed that when i go into taskman. In processes I have
Python.exe (which I have never noticed before as running - but i know other
programs can and do utilise this language) I also have LuCallbackProxy.exe
running (another program I havent noticed before) - which lead me to think I
may have a virus on the laptop.

I have run a range of virus checkers on my machine however but nothing
coming up.

Any help or advice would be great

Re: IE and Firefox not displaying webpage but Win Messenger Live Works
have you tried killing the two mysterious processes and seeing if you can
connect then?
any abnormal proxy settings?

just for testing from command ping www.google.com does it ping okay and
resolve the name okay
if it does it will reply with an IP address: something like:

C:\Documents and Settings\hi09>ping www.google.com

Pinging www.l.google.com [72.14.205.104] with 32 bytes of d

Reply from 72.14.205.104: bytes=32 time=17ms TTL=249
Reply from 72.14.205.104: bytes=32 time=16ms TTL=249
Reply from 72.14.205.104: bytes=32 time=19ms TTL=249
Reply from 72.14.205.104: bytes=32 time=15ms TTL=249

Ping statistics for 72.14.205.104:
    Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 15ms, Maximum = 19ms, Average = 16ms

take the IP and try connecting to the web site with the IP to ensure you
dont have a DNS issue - i.e. http://72.14.205.104/
