I need to create a boot CD. I do not have a floppy drive. The "Format" option for my CD/DVD RW drive does not list "MSDOS Startup Disk" Thanks

This certainly isn't my strongest field but is there a reason why you can't put the same bootup files on a CD instead of a floppy? -- JoAnn Paules MVP Microsoft [Publisher] "Tim Judd" wrote in message news:uhGXxx5hGHA.4144@TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl... > JoAnn Paules [MVP] wrote: >> www.bootdisk.com >> > > does that offer the material to create a bootable *CD*? > > this is what the OP asked for.
And if not...http://www.bootdisk.com/nero.htm (A *very* fast Google search yielded this.) -- JoAnn Paules MVP Microsoft [Publisher] "JoAnn Paules [MVP]" wrote in message news:faidneFGDJwzEx_ZnZ2dnUVZ_vydnZ2d@suscom.com... > This certainly isn't my strongest field but is there a reason why you > can't put the same bootup files on a CD instead of a floppy? > > -- > > JoAnn Paules > MVP Microsoft [Publisher] > > > > "Tim Judd" wrote in message > news:uhGXxx5hGHA.4144@TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl... >> JoAnn Paules [MVP] wrote: >>> www.bootdisk.com >>> >> >> does that offer the material to create a bootable *CD*? >> >> this is what the OP asked for. > >

On a CD, if I recall correctly, it's sector 0x7c. The boot sectors alone are different. You can use a floppy image as an "emulated" floppy image on the CD, yes. Some software has trouble, if at all, to do that. It seems the most compatable software is Easy CD Creator (even as far as back as v4.x) I don't use bootdisk.com because I always make my own. XP has that feature builtin. All 9x has it built in. I am pretty sure 2003 has it too. I think NT4 and 2000 were the only ones that couldn't create a bootdisk. I was just watching the OP, and seeing that you recommended floppies from bootdisk.com. If the OP has the problem solved in many of different ways; it's a moot point now.
