I am running windows 2000 professional whenever I unplug my scanner or printer I get a message telling me to temporarily disable the device properly from control panel, but when I go through this route the wizard doesn't show a list of USB devices to select in the window and all the buttons are blank and so I have no alternative but to cancell and unplug can someone help with this? Thanks
Go to control panel, "Printers & Faxes". or "Camera & Scanners", then right click on the item, and select disable. Depending on how you have your folders set up, you can highlight, and select from either the left hand side, or the drop down menu at the top of the screen. Hope this helps. In Win2000, there is a generic icon with an arrow pointing to the lower left hand corner to indicate a "stoppable" (often USB) device is inserted into the computer. Single left click on that icon, it should show a list of items that are possible to stop. Find which one the printer is, and highlight and left click it to stop the device. Windows 2000 complains when ANYTHING is removed without stopping. Even when it's completely safe and no harm done. Windows XP will not complain about USB drives, etc being unplugged because it knows it's often pulled without stopping. An image is attached. the USB icon I'm talking about is the top left icon. HTH
