My computer wont shut down or log off.   

When I click shut down, or log off, nothing happens. It lets me click with no 
error message, but nothing happens. I have to shut down by holding down the 
power  button. Can anyone help? I'm using a thinkpad r50, windows xp pro.

Are you running all of the applicable patches?
