Web Documents do not open on Desktop or Favorites
I have 2 problems with web document shorcut url's and favorites that no
longer open in IE6:

1. Web documents internet shortcuts on my desktop no longer open. I receive
the following error message:
"This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this
action. Create an association in the Folder Options control panel."
**How do I associate a program in the Folder Options control panel?

2. When I click on Start, go to Favorites, click on any web document, I get
the following error message about internet shortcuts:
"The object that 'C:\Documents and Settings\....\Desktop\....com.url' refers
to has been removed or is inaccessible."
**How can this problem be resolved?

My Desktop and Favorite folders are in tact on C:\Documents and Settings,
and the local programs work fine. It's only the web document-based files
that will not open on desktop or favorites menu. These problems started
unexpectedly yesterday (7/30/2008) with no new recent changes on my system.
(Win2K, pro)

Any advice and help is appreciated. Thanks.

It was from a Communities web reader. I used to think that these must be
from people who thought that they had to post something (e.g. nothing)
to vote (ignoring the twits who spam a newsgroup with moronic echos.)
But apparently some claim that they actually have written something too
(in invisible ink?) and that it just wasn't posted.   ; }

As for your problem(s) I couldn't understand it. I would probably try using
ProcMon (or RegMon and FileMon) to get more clues. In any case this
newsgroup is not really the best one to conduct troubleshooting sessions in.

Good luck
