Bit of a rant
I have had technet plus for about 5 years. In that time I have found it to
be extremely useful.
Since the switch to the new technet site, things have gone form ok to
absolutely horrible.

On top of that when you "Manage your profile" and change your address when
you move - this doen't acutally change your address so that your disks are
sent to your new address, out of the 4 addresses you change one says
shipping address - this doesn't mean anything - you have to go to a
comepletely different site to change that. HUH?

For the past 2 days I have been on the phone with technet support. First
Day: I try to do a technet search and am greeted with some kind of avatar
forum profile page for ANY search that I do, but only when logged into
technet. Then I'm told that I am not looking at the same logged in pages
that she was. She claimed I wasn't but I was and could see most things. Then
she said I wasn't registered. Then how was I logged in. So After having
technet for 5 years, I registered. Then I'm asked to send multiple sceeen
shots to a email address so explain my problem and that the help and support
person can halp and support me, so I send screen shots.

Next day: The solution is to enter a screen name for the avatar thing... DO
WHAT?
Then I made the supreme mistake of asking where the downloads went...I was
trying to find where the downloads went to ( kinda weird because I was just
downloading xp sp3 last week). I try to explain that I used to have a nice
tree-view for technet plus downloads so that you can actually search and
look for something, now there is "Download Search". With this absolutely
dumbed down and near useless thing, it now takes ten times longer to "try"
to find something.
...Try this search for "windows xp resource kit" or just "resource kit". It
actually brings back about 144 results. But the resource kit apparently
doesn't exist for download anymore according to technet support. It seems
you have to know exactly what to search for and what they do and don't have
depending on the day. I was told that when I run into problems like this to
call MS. Ok, I've been on the horn with them for the better part of 3-4
hours, number to do a search and number 2 to download a respurce kit. What
used to take 10 minutes now takes 3-4 hours.?????? This doen't seem like
progress or optimal use of anyones time.

I am VERY sorry for the rant, but the argument and the sidestepping by the
supervisor I talked to was just silly.
I tried to explain that people that are technical buy technet. And that by
dumbing down and hiding what we can download is counter-intutive to what
your customer base is capable of.

Microsoft has made a point of going to a download only scenario, I
understand this as it would save them money and shipping logistics and
costs. But the download site is now emasculated to the point of pain. This
seems counter to the download only ideal.

Using quotes? I just get 2 hits.

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-ca/subscriptions/downloads/cc137105.aspx?q=%22Resource+Kit%22

Even not using quotes I only get 97.

BTW that seems to mean Resource OR Kit even if I try adding +
to each search term. Also evidently that search ignores Boolean operators
and completely strips & and |

So it is actually almost as effective to search for just the word kit
instead. 10 hits. Which then shows the 2 which have both words
in their titles. E.g. by doing a Ctrl-f find for resource (in IE.)

Also no such luck just getting hits with the word kit in them
by trying to refine the search to be +kit or "kit"

Searching. That is what has become really inconsistent and pathetic
in TechNet lately. Stll not as bad as MSDN though. IMO.

Re: Bit of a rant
Hi,

I really have no problem in finding the downloads I need on TechNet Plus.
Maybe you find it a bit hard because you got used to it a certain way?
