Removal Tool but you are still encountering the issue.
The issue you are encountering may potentially occur if the device driver is
damaged or corrupted.
Since the issue persists even after completely removing the Norton product

I understand from your message that you are using Norton Internet Security
(NIS) 2007 and while connecting to the internet, your computer dials,
connects and then disconnects and you encounter error 720 with the following
error message:
"A connection could not be established because the Point to Point Protocol
(PPP) settings on your computer and on the remote computer do not match."
You have also mentioned that in devices you encounter the following message:
"Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be
corrupted or missing. (Code 39)."
I also understand that the following devices have issues:
VIA Rhine II Fast Ethernet Adapter - Symantec Network Security Miniport
ROOT\SYMC_SYMIMMP\0000 39
WAN Miniport (IP) - Symantec Network Security Miniport
ROOT\SYMC_SYMIMMP\0001 39.
The issue you are encountering may potentially occur if the Norton program
drivers are damaged.
In order to resolve the issue, I suggest you to uninstall the NIS 2007 using
the Norton Removal Tool, download the available Windows updates and then
check for the issue.
Now, please follow the steps provided below to update Windows XP operating
system.
1. On the Windows taskbar, click Start > Settings > Control Panel.
2. In the Control Panel, double-click Automatic Updates.
3. Select Automatic (Recommended).
4. In the drop down, select a day and time convenient for you.
5. Click on Apply, then OK.
Now check for the issue.
If your issue still remains unresolved after following these steps, please
reply to this e-mail with the exact text of the error message or the details
of what happens after performing the steps mentioned above. This will help
us better understand the issue you are encountering. While replying to this
message, please do not change the subject line of this message.

Re: Error 720
Thanks so much for the advice, i had read it earlier - i should have
explained further. I contacted my server and they went through my settings
with me. All were ok. I can connect to the internet using my laptop so not a
server problem. Think the protocols are corrupted and dont know how to remove
and reinstall. Internet protocol ( TCP/IP) etc. It happened after a power cut
- i tried System Restore - says nothing has changed!!Is there anything else
it could be?
