Video, but no audio with some .avi files
I've uploaded a lot of .avi files recently, and most of them have worked in
WMPv11, but I've ran across a couple that have video, but absolutely no
audio. I've noticed for those files that in the lower left corner "Acquiring
codec" comes up, followed by "Codec acquired", but it doesn't work. I
downloaded the latest DivX codec about half a week ago. I'm thinking this IS
a codec problem, but I've really no idea what it could be. Other .avi files
work great, but there's a couple that don't. I ran GSpot and it said I had
the proper codecs installed to run both .avi's that weren't working, so I'm
at a loss.

This is a Mac WMP group (you're discussing a windows program though)

GSpot will also try to identify the audio codec - that's separate from
the video codec shown in the section on the right - in fact it's
directly above the "Proposed codec solutions and tests"

What audio codec does it list there ?

A file I tested here shows (for example) 0x0055 MPEG-1 Layer 3 and the
[VBR] box is highlighted to indicate variable bitrate encoding of the
audio (as opposed to [CBR] constant bitrate audio encoding)

HTH
