Operating System: Older version The sound on my Macbook Pro recently stopped working after I plugged it into a pair of radio speakers. A red light shines brightly out of the "headphone" hole, but no sound is emitted unless headphones or speakers are plugged in. How do I fix this?

A red light shines out of the headphone connector?? ?I have *never* seen that on a MacBook Pro. If anything, you should check the Sound prefpane in the System preferences to make sure that the sound is properly being sent to the headphone connector. Double-check that you are also connecting the speakers to the proper port, Corentin -- --- Mac:MS MVP http://www.cortig.net/wordpress/ --- http://www.mvps.org - http://mvp.support.microsoft.com MVPs are not MS employees - Les MVP ne travaillent pas pour MS Remove "NoSpam" to e-mail me - Retirez "NoSpam" pour m'écrire
Thanks for your response. Yes, there is a red light, it seems like the system still thinks that the speakers are plugged in. Will checking the Sound Prefpane lead to the sound emitting per usual over the laptop speakers? When the machine is plugged into the speakers it works. It's when it's not plugged in that it doesn't work. Thanks!!!

What generation MacBook Pro do you have?? > it seems like the system still thinks that the > speakers are plugged in. I'm lost now :-@ Let me try to sumamrize a couple of things: When speakers are plugged in, by default, the internal speakers of the MacBook Pro are turned off. It's one or the other. The Sound prefpane allows you what output to use (internal speakers or whatever is connected to the headphone connector). Does it clarify things a bit?
