Install the FLip4Mac WMV codecs instead (free and recommended by MS nowadays since WMP for Mac is dead). You will then be able to open these files in QuickTime player. thanks. I have already done this re:WMV. when I try to play using that the response is : the movie could not be opened. the application attempted to use an unsupported feature. why does it say movie? it's a music file. WMA. what can I do now? thanks ~ Amelia.

WMA. The extension is sometimes misleading. I've seen such files wich were actually a snippet of code redirecting to the actual corresponding streaming content. In this context, it is possible to incorporate some scripts and support for specific player functions. Is the size of your WMA file consistent with the size you woudl expect for such data (or is it really small)?? Have you tried playing it in VLC Media PLayer (which has support for some WMA formats)?? hi, thanks for your reply. the size of the file is 5MB. I downloaded the VLC player, and it plays, there is just NO SOUND! what a nightmare this is.... is there anything I can 'correct' in the VLC player? ~ Amelia.

Well it might be that they are using codecs that are not supported in this file. You simply can't add them to the application unfortunately. In VLC though, you should be able to display the information on the file. It shoudl tell you what has been used for audio and video. If it is an old codec, an applciation like ffmpeg X might have a shot at converting it to a different format that would then be readable (but chances are more than slim) Corentin -- --- Mac:MS MVP http://www.cortig.net/wordpress/ --- http://www.mvps.org - http://mvp.support.microsoft.com MVPs are not MS employees - Les MVP ne travaillent pas pour MS Remove "NoSpam" to e-mail me - Retirez "NoSpam" pour m'écrire
